Matukio : The Norwegian Embassy Grants UN Tanzania 3.1 Million US Dollars

The Norwegian Embassy today has signed an agreement with One UN Tanzania to release USD 3.1 million (approximately 6.9 billion Tshs).The signing ceremony was held at the UN offices in Dar es Salaam between the Ambassador of Norway H.E Hanne-Marie Kaarstad and the UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez. The contribution will focus on providing support to the UN’s refugee response, governance initiatives, and UN partnership building in Zanzibar as well as on human rights.
Emphasizing on the Embassy support to the One UN, Ambassador of Norway H.E Hanne-Marie Kaarstad stated that Tanzania has set a good example of UN Agencies working together with coherence, efficiency and effectiveness. She added; “The UN has always been a vital and highly valued partner for Norway. The implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals, which we hope will be adopted by the UN General Assembly in September, will require hard work. It is not business as usual and requires concerted efforts from us all. We wish to support the UN in assisting the people and the Government of United Republic of Tanzania in their effort to achieve these goals and fulfil their international obligations, including giving a voice to the most marginalised and vulnerable.”

Thanking the government and people of the Kingdom of Norway for their continued support, the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez, stated that Norway has been a supportive and constructive partner of One UN and Tanzania for decades. “The contribution of USD 3.1 Million will be used to strengthen partnerships, enhance democratic governance interventions by UN agencies and provide urgent relief to Burundian refugees in Tanzania”. He added that the One UN looks forward to a continued collaboration with Norway in the years to come.
Norway has been a major supporter of the UN reform agenda and the upcoming Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and with other development partners, is committed to the development vision of the government and the people of Tanzania.
