Mgombea Ubunge Mwaka Huu 2015 Bw. Wilhelm Gidabuday

Athlete Wilhelm Gidabuday said mediocre show in sports
caused by associations that do not have a formalised corporate structure
scheme.
The Hanang-based Gidabuday announced his intention to contest as a member of parliament for the constituency at the October general elections.
He said one of the problems associated with the development of the sports economy in the country is that the country regards sports on amateur basis to lack corporate structure scheme.
“We must also make sure that sport act number 12 of 1967 which we are currently using should be amended so that it can regard sports in professional way and not on recreational basis as it is today”, he said.
“This creates an awkward system on how financial management is handled at national sports associations which results in a lack of transparency and acts as a deterrent to would-be investors domestically”, he said.
He also said he will initiate positive financial management structures at national sports associations that would at the end of its financial year produce report on its returns to the government.
“Now it’s impossible to check the accounts of national sports associations, because they are not funded by the government or get any grand, but it is a known fact that they get some financial support from well wishers and international donors, the lack of audited accounts at different levels create a loophole where revenue and expenditures cannot be properly accounted for, which in turn results in lack of trust between corporate bodies and administrators of the game”, he said.
He further said national sports associations must have a strong legal framework on how to govern associations. There is a vacuum which if not filled sports in the country will stagnate at amateur level depending on handouts from well-wishers.
On his constituency Gidabuday said he will ensure that Mount Hanang which is the third highest in the country is being used for sports tourism to benefit the locals and the country in general.
Gidabuday said Hanang has produced some top local athletes who have brought medals to the country at various international events, he named some of them as Gidamis Shahanga, Francis Naali, Gewayi Suja, the late Robert Sambu, Boay Akonaay and Simon Robert.
He said now the district is not doing enough in promoting sports as leaders are no longer living in the villages with the people.
“There are many sports development activities which I will do for the benefit of the country and my constituency, but the main one is to use mount Hanang for sports tourism. Around the mountain there are good places for playing golf, rugby and even cycling.
