A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE OF AMBASSADOR OF TANZANIA TO FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY TO THE PEOPLE STRUCK BY EARTHQUAKE IN KAGERA REGION
The tragic news of the earthquake that struck Kagera region on Saturday, September 10, 2016 was a great shock to the Ambassador and Members of Staff of the Tanzania Embassy, Berlin.
We send our sincere condolences and a deepest sympathy to the people of Bukoba, Kagera Region and all Tanzanians. We particularly express our condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.
Tanzania in general and Bukoba in particular have so many friends in the Federal Republic of Germany and other countries, which we represent from Berlin. These friends and Tanzanians who live in these countries have also been sending messages of condolences to the people of Kagera who were affected by the earthquake through the Embassy in Berlin. We sincerely thank them for their compassion and spiritual support to Tanzania during this difficult time.
Our special sincere thanks to all those individuals and groups who have asked us-
to call at them anytime without hesitation if there's anything at all that they can do to help,
to know how to reach the responsible authorities for disaster management in Tanzania and in Bukoba so that they may send their contributions to those who may need urgent assistance; and
to know how the volunteers of all categories can be facilitated to travel to Bukoba to give a helping hand.
As indicated above the Ambassador and his staff thank and assure all of them our close cooperation.
We had also close contacts with the National Disaster Management Department in the office of the Prime Minister as well as the Regional Disaster Management Committee in Bukoba. They have all appreciated the sorrow and compassion shown by individuals and groups in Germany and in other countries we represent.
So far, the general direction is that - for those groups with traditional links and relations with similar groups or institutions in Tanzania i.e. Caritas Tanzania / Caritas Germany, Red Cross, Churches etc., they may wish to continue to channel their contributions through those institutions. Otherwise for those who may wish to directly contribute to the Kagera Regional Disaster Management Committee, the description of the Account is:
“KAMATI YA MAAFA KAGERA,
CRDB BANK, BUKOBA,
ACT.NO: 0152225617300
SWIFT CODE: CORUtztz”
The Embassy of Tanzania in Berlin in collaboration with the Tanzanian diaspora in different parts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia etc., will continue to coordinate the mission of volunteers who may wish to travel to Kagera and assist people and for those specialists in earthquake studies to make through investigation about the occurrences of quakes in Kagera and the Western Wing of the East African Rift Valley.
To all of you we say a friend in need is a friend indeed: “ Asanteni Sana”.
Philip S. Marmo
Ambassador
