President Paul Kagame yesterday promoted 5,726 Rwanda Defence Forces officers.
The President, who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, promoted 10 officers from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier-General, 46 Lieutenant-Colonel to Colonel, 182 Majors to Lieutenant-Colonel, 685 Captain to Major, 1,018 Lieutenants to Captain, and four Second-Lieutenants to Captain.
According to a statement released yesterday by the Defence and Military Spokesperson, Brig Gen Joseph Nzabamwita, the ten colonels that have been promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General include; John Gashaija Bagirigomwa, Emmanuel Ndahiro, Denis Rutaha, Ephrem Rurangwa and Eugene Nkubito.
Others are Jean Damascene Sekamana, Chris Murari, Didas Ndahiro, Firmin Bayingana and Evariste Murenzi.
The new Brigadier-Generals are mostly division commanders, brigade commanders, and regional force commanders.
The promotions also included three medical doctors who were promoted to the rank of Captain, two Second-Lieutenants to Lieutenant, seven Sergeant-Majors to Warrant Officer II, 39 Staff Sergeants to Sergeant-Major, one Sergeant to Sergeant-Major, 20 Sergeants to Staff Sergeant, 272 Corporals to Sergeant and 3,437 Privates to Corporal.

Among those elevated to the rank of ACP are Celestin Twahirwa,the commissioner for public relations and media, and Vincent Sano and Felly B. Rutageruka, commissioners for finance and peace support operation.
Others are Deputy Commandant National Police College, Joseph Rudasingwa, Eastern and Western Regional Police Commanders, Emmanuel Karasi and Bertin Mutezintare respectively and Commanding Officer of Revenue Protection Unit, Jean Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi, among others.

Others include 53 Chief Inspectors of Police (CIP) who were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police, 54 Inspectors of Police (IP) who were elevated to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP), while 367 Assistant Inspectors of Police (AIP) were promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police (IP).
Three Chief Sergeant of Police, 13 Sergeants and two Police Constables were promoted the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police.

Senior Police officers promoted
