MAKERERE, Kampala - A male Makerere University student who jumped to his death from the 5th floor of a girl’s hall of residence earlier this week left a note to his father, it has emerged.

Emmanuel Kagyina, a non-resident second year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Arts at the College of humanities and social sciences plunged to his horrific end on Monday this week.

He left a note explaining that he committed suicide due to family related hiccups.
“This is the toughest and hardest decision one can ever make. But on taking a critical analysis about everything, I had to make it,” read the note in part.

“Dad, it's true that I wronged you in some aspects but it is also true that me and you did not share our relationship to the required standards,” he said in the note.

“To Uncle Pat, you have tried to shape us as you can but the problem is that you were strict and harsh. This is the 'DOT COM ERA!!!”

Others mentioned in the note are Titwe, Nabaasa, Kanankunda, Hope, Sofi, Akim and Sonku, believed to be relatives.

Police have launched an inquiry into the mysterious death of students at Makerere University.

According to the officer in-charge of Wandegeya Police station, Julius Ceasor Tusingwire, they are carrying out in-depth investigations to uncover the actual cause of the death of the student, and several other similar ones.

“These deaths are disturbing to the parents, it's high time we found out why they occur. The report is not yet concluded but the essence of this investigation is to establish the cause of the death of the students,” Tusingwire said.

The deceased was attached to University Hall, for male students.
In a statement issued by Makerere University assistant communications officer, Kagyina jumped off the top of Mary Stuart Hall at around 10:00pm on Monday.

“According to the warden of the hall, one of the students saw the deceased jump off and she came running to report the incidence. On reaching the scene, Kagyina was lying unconscious. He died shortly after,” Marion Alina said in the statement.
